Note From the Rockland County Audubon Conservation Chair

The Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act legislation funds projects to protect essential habitat for migratory birds, including locations like Piermont Pier. It also funds projects through the entire migratory path for birds that we only get to see for part of the year, such as acrobatic Tree Swallows, ensuring that those birds will continue to come visit us every year.

Residents throughout Rockland County enjoy bird watching as do millions of people across the country. We have lost 3 billion birds in less than a human lifetime, and two-thirds of North American bird species are threatened by the climate crisis. Because we are living in a time of climate and biodiversity emergencies, it is particularly important for the government to pay attention to these issues. The U.S. House of Representatives has recently passed a bill supporting migratory birds across the hemisphere, but the Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act must now pass the Senate.
