Four years ago, women artisans from our local towns joined together to organize the Women’s Craft Group. On Saturday, November 24, the work of some of the members of this group will be showcased at the Palisades Holiday Craft Bazaar. Just in time for holiday gift giving, the featured artisans are: pottery by Sylvia March, hand-made soaps, bath oils and scrubs from natural ingredients by Sherice Texeria, crocheted hats, slippers and scarves by Jillian Cacioppo, custom embroidered baby blankets by Jennifer Litvak, one-of-a-kind glass beads by Carolyn Ferrel, photography and a new children’s book by Linda Sabaj, dresses and separates by clothing designer Toma Holley, ceramics and handbags by Maria Minichiello and jewelry by jewelry designers Hilarie Blumenthal, Lisa Caccamise, Carol McIntosh, and Kim Satin.
Also, women helping women both locally and internationally is an important theme. Home of Hope, an orphanage in Tibet will sell Tibetan made hats, coats and other items that support the orphanage and provide education and health care for the displaced Tibetan children in their native land. Anna Msowoya-Keys works for non-profit humanitarian organizations helping refugees and others in dire need in Malawi, Rwanda, and Mozambique. Her hand-made fair trade African items support aid organizations and African women's groups and artisans.
Wreaths and other rustic décor items made from unique varieties of evergreen and berries and as well as organic produce from Blooming Hill Farm will be available. Soups and baked goods to stay or to go are prepared by Mimi Platas.
The Palisades Holiday Craft Bazaar will take place Thanksgiving weekend, on Saturday, November 24 from 10:00am-5:00pm in the Palisades Community Center (PCC) at 675 Oak Tree Road. This event benefits the PCC’s Restoration Campaign. For further information, contact Carol Baxter at carolbax@optonline.net.
