Film Crew Fakes Restaurant Fix

Right before Memorial Day, the Palisades gas station was dressed for action as the Rooster Hamburger Stand for a film adaptation of Melissa Bank's A Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing. Several passing motorists stopped to check out what looked like a new retail option in Palisades, only to be waved on past by production assistants with walkie-talkies.

Bank's 1999 short story collection tells about the mixed-up dating life of a character named Jane Rosenal, and is set in western Massachusetts--do we look convincing as the Berkshires? Still in production, the film is being directed by Marc Klein and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Maggie Grace, and Alec Baldwin, with release set for 2007.

The illusion that we could get a cold ice cream treat or buy a juicy burger for dinner was over quickly. The crew spent only a few hours here. Passing hikers were urged to help themselves to as many free vegetables as they could carry away when the shooting was over.
