Bulletin Board May 2010

BEAUTIFYING THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Above is a picture of Larry Tabor, who has been working at beautifying Oak Tree Road near Horne Tooke Road. He has planted pear and apple trees, blueberry and strawberry bushes and lots of tulip bulbs. He has incurred the cost for this and of course the labor to clear the area and plant. He lives on Horne Tooke Road with his wife, Catherine and their daughter, Logan.

CABLE COMMITTEE
The Town Board has established a “cable committee” and is looking for volunteers to serve on this committee. The committee will take up concerns subscribers have with Cablevision, FIOS, Direct TV and the Dish. If you are interested in being on this committee, please send a letter to Supervisor Paul Whalen or contact Eileen Larkin at lLEENOG@AOL. COM. Eileen will serve as the chairperson of this committee.

PALIS-AGERS TO MEET FOR PICNIC
The next meeting of the Palis-Agers is set for Thursday, May 20, at 12 noon in the Community Room of the Palisades Presbyterian Church. Bring your lunch — we will supply coffee and perhaps cookies. It will give us a chance to tell stories, to talk about life in general and to make plans for next year.

FROM THE POST OFFICE
Have you noticed that the April showers indeed bring out spring flowers? The Post Office will soon have a varied selection of stamps that will indeed let us know that at last it’s spring. At the end of April come in to purchase some interesting stamps while supplies last. Subu and Karen are eager to help you. Remember that the Palisades Post Office is here to provide excellent customer service and to assist in your mailing needs.

PANTHER WATCH
On February 14 Al Perlmutter, who lives on Corbett Lane, saw the panther cub — now almost full size — silhouetted against the snow and crossing the steps that lead down from his house to the river. On March 14 Danny Lehrecke and his daughter Nina saw the panther again, in the same area by the Hudson. On March 20 Danny was kayaking in the marsh when he surprised the animal, which bounded up the cliff into Tallman Park. Early on the morning of April 9 Fred Little was awakened by several loud, guttural cries, coming from Tallman Park, close to the Gerard-Little house. The Panther Patrol is still hoping to get a picture of the elusive creature, but has had no success.
If you have a sighting, try to take a picture, and e-mail Pantherhotline@gmail.com. All leads are investigated and the cameras continue to be monitored. Eyewitnesses should also call S. O. Police Department Detective Maher at 359-3730.
There have been many reports of a scrawny, sickly looking fox throughout Palisades. It was found dead outside a house on Ludlow Lane the morning of April 12.

PALISADES MARKET OPEN
The Palisades Market, which opened April 9, is full of tempting food and drinks to buy, including pastry from Didier Dumas and breads from Balthazar. There is an attractive patio in back where you can sit and enjoy your purchases. The Market is open from 7AM to 7PM. Check it out.

ROBERT ADZEMA SHOW
New watercolors of the Piermont Marsh by Robert Adzema will be exhibited during the month of May at Bunbury’s Coffee Shop in Piermont. Bunbury’s is open every day.
