O & R Substation Update -- Letter to the Editor

October 22 PLANNING BOARD MEETING CANCELLED - READ ON FOR IMPORTANT NEWS!!

Don Sullivan, of SaveTappan.com, recently received a call from Tom Brizzolara, Director of Public Affairs for Orange & Rockland Utilities. He stated to Don that Orange & Rockland has "HEARD US" (community) and has contacted the Orangetown Planning Board and cancelled their appearance before the Planning Board on October 22, 2008.

Mr. Brizzolara would not elaborate on why they cancelled the meeting, but we believe they are again changing their plans for the substation due to community opposition to this project. The new date for Orange & Rockland Utilities to come before the Planning Board is now January 28, 2009.

Don and Paddy Sullivan attended a pre Planning Board committee meeting on October 15, 2008 at 9:30 AM. This committee makes comments to the regular Planning Board on upcoming projects coming, and in this case, the O&R substation.

As a result of this meeting, this committee made a recommendation to the regular planning board to move the substation further south of Oak Tree Rd. and to enclose the substation in a building. The Sullivans were shown a photo of a similar substation built on Bruckner Blvd. in the South Bronx, built by Con Edison, the parent company of Orange & Rockland. They requested that O&R consider building a similar structure.

We thank everyone for your continued support and for all the research information that you have provided. Orange & Rockland still must know we will not go away. This will be back in 3 months.

We will keep you informed. Any questions, feel free to call or email us.
