Palisades Alert: Tennessee Gas Pipeline

The devastating gas line explosion in California triggered renewed concerns about the Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) that runs through our community. Over the last few years, it was a hot discussion item during the O & R Tappan Substation talks and during the development of the Rte. 9W Snedens Pointe. The TGP is 14,200 miles of pipeline that stretches from the Mexican border to Canada that brings natural gas close to cities. Smaller local distribution lines then deliver gas directly to homes and businesses.

In our community, at Rte. 303, the TGP runs south of Oak Tree Rd., heads a little north, crosses Oak Tree near Rockland Park, continues east behind the Esplanade, Hey Hoe Woods, and along the southern edge of Snedens Pointe, and finally crosses 9W entering Tallman near the old gas station and ends down at the river.

In our area, look for this orange pipe that marks the pipe line. With any renovation requiring digging: “Call before you Dig: 811. Reminder: If you smell gas, call 911.
