"The Choreographer" is a one hour film about Lisa DeRibère, a dancer with Balanchine for nine years and, then with Baryshnikov’s company. With over 80 ballets to her credit as a choreographer, DeRibère is an active member of the dance community. In 2009, Christopher Lukas, a long-time producer-director, followed the choreographer as she prepared a group of nine women dance students at Barnard College for a performance of a new dance of hers set to two movements from Schubert’s “"Trout" ” Quintet. Shooting and recording by himself, Lukas followed the preparations for three months, then recorded the performance. The result is the film that will be seen at the Palisades Free Library on April 6 at 3:30pm, where Ms. DeRibere will talk about teaching ballet.
