As a small community we are blessed with a wonderful asset in the Palisades Free Library. The Library is 119 years old. It has evolved over these years under the care of four previous directors – Mary Quidor, Edith Cooley, Mildred Rippey, and Beatrice Agnew, and our present Director, Maria Gagliardi. That said, the Library truly thrives because of the immense contributions and support from three groups: Palisades residents, the talented and devoted staff and its Board of Trustees. Every year as required by law, at its February Meeting the Board of Trustees elects its officers.

We are happy to report the results: — Bill Saum replaces Mary Ellen Ledwith as President who is stepping down after five years of illustrious service.
— Charles Shimel takes on the Treasurer position replacing Lisette George.
— Gerry Miras takes on the role of Board Secretary replacing Dr. Carol Stewart who is stepping down after 5 years. We thank Carol for her untiring service and in particular her leadership in chairing the Board’s Search Committee for our new Director.

Summer Reading Program
Before you know it, summer will be here. Once again, the Palisades Free Library will offer our Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “Make a Splash, Read!” Each week Carolyn Travers will offer activities relating to the theme along with many reading suggestions. Students can have fun and continue to improve their reading skills.

On Monday, June 28, we will kick off our summer programs with a performance at TZHS of Flow Circus. This is a vaudeville style oneman show combining physical comedy, magic, juggling and much more. Look for future announcements regarding all our programs throughout the summer.
