Palisades Free Library News: May 2014
Alice Haagensen’s Palisades and Snedens Landing Re-issued
At 3:30pm on Sunday, May 18, Alice Gerard will give a talk at
the Palisades Free library about the republication of Palisades
and Snedens Landing, first published by her mother Alice Haagensen in 1986 but long out of print. She will have copies of
the book with her for purchase. This book covers the history of
our community from the earliest times to the end of the nineteenth century and contains 122 pages of narrative history and
photographs as well as another 97 pages of appendices. Alice
Gerard’s book Palisades and Snedens Landing: the Twentieth
Century is a continuation of the earlier book.

All programs are free and held at the library. Registration is
required.
Mothers Day

Wednesday, June 4, 4:30pm to 5:45pm, ages 5 to 10.
This year’s Summer Reading Program’s theme is Fizz, Boom, Read. We kick off the program with a special performance featuring Jeff Boyer and his amazing Bubble Trouble show. The performance is currently scheduled for Tuesday, June 24 at 7:00pm. Look for more details in June.
Carolyn Travers will present a series of programs throughout the summer. In addition, we will also have a Summer Reading club. Read, keep a log, collect stickers and win prizes.
Teens
Coming Soon …Videogames for check-out at the library. We
will offer games for Xbox One and Playstation 4, ERSB ratings E, E 10+, Teen and Mature. Check the teen corner for
more information.
Parents are responsible for enforcing the ERSB ratings on
video games for age appropriate gaming. Parents are the only
individuals who may restrict their child’s access to library materials and services.
Adult Programs

The 5 Libraries of South Orangetown present Christina Baker Kline, author of Orphan Train.
Orphan Train is a story of unexpected friendship, second- chances, and a life-long search for family. The author will read from the novel and present a slide talk with photos and memorabilia of orphan train riders.
