FROM THE DIRECTOR
Over the summer we bid farewell to adult librarian Anya Berg, children’s librarian Kate Foster and teen librarian Georgia Grandstaff. The children and teen positions have been combined and filled by a single librarian who can spend more time getting to know our community’s families. We can’t replace Anya, but we have hired a librarian who is dedicated to providing the friendly and personal service that our library is known for. We welcome our new librarians, Emily Nevill in the Adult Services position and Carly Campos in the Youth Services position. The library has undergone many changes in the last six months and I want to thank our patrons for their understanding and support as we reimagine what a community library can provide during a pandemic. In many ways we were well situated to manage the upheaval in our routines. We expanded our online offerings and our ebook checkouts went up 45% in the months of April through August. Yoga classes moved to YouTube and we hosted a book club and the Artist’s Way via Zoom. Families jumped with joy by participating in our Storywalk in Tallman Park. Our small building size and intrepid staff made it possible for us to resume in-person services faster than larger libraries. We, along with the Tappan, Orangeburg and New City libraries, were the first in Rockland County to open our doors to the public on July 20. People were slow to return but circulation is steadily increasing. As of this writing, checkouts are 85% of what they were this time last year. As we move into the fall, new staff will bring a fresh perspective and help us reinvent ourselves to meet the changing demands. Be sure to sign up for our Enewsletter on our homepage so you don’t miss out on our latest offerings.
