Dear Friends and Neighbors,

For the past year, our collective character has been tested by a deadly virus called Corona. In the process, we have learned a lot about ourselves. One important lesson is that if we wish to win this struggle with the virus, we must do it.

TOGETHER.

as individuals, and as a community. We already have ways to express the togetherness of our community

Together we gather at the flagpole every year to celebrate our patriotism and to honor those who gave their lives to protect our freedoms.

Together, after the Memorial Day festivities, we adjourn to the church parish house for a breakfast of pancakes smothered in fresh butter and maple syrup from Vermont.

Together we take pride in the budding talent of our young thespians as they bring new life to the plays of William Shakespeare.

Together in June we welcome visitors from miles around to The Strawberry Festival, a feast of the best strawberry shortcake and freshly whipped cream on the East Coast.

At the center of all this activity stands the Palisades Presbyterian Church.

Together we need to preserve this carpenter-gothic masterpiece built in 1863. It has been more than 25 years since the building has had a new roof. Back then there was a movement afoot to replace the cedar shakes with asphalt roofing. But we needed money. Laurie Ferguson (then our minister) and I decided to ask Anne Gugler, the grande dame of Palisades and Snedens, for help raising the money needed to replace the roof. She agreed on one condition: “If you want my help, the roof MUST be replaced with cedar shakes. The roof is all you see when you look at the building.” She was successful raising the funds needed. And the historical authenticity of this special place was retained for all to enjoy. Which brings us to today. Once again the roof is in bad shape and needs to be replaced.

This year in particular we hope you will include the Palisades Presbyterian Church among your charitable contributions. That way you can help us as we look forward together to a secure church building and a world without the threat of Covid-19. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Ernest Quick
