The Sidewalk Has Landed!

In 2008, at the annual Palisades Community Center (PCC) meeting, the community was very vocal, yet again, about their concerns of safety on Oak Tree Road, primarily speeding and the lack of a sidewalk between the PCC and RT 9W. So began the concerted effort to get a sidewalk installed. For six years the community attended countless town meetings to give impassioned speeches, and e-mailed letters to three successive town supervisors and the town board. Finally, after years of twists and turns, we were thrilled when, in early September, a construction crew appeared and in less than three weeks our sidewalk was in.

Immediately people were seen taking strolls and waiting for the bus in safety. To be thanked are the dozens of community members who never gave up attending meetings to speak, Nancy Low-Hogan for starting the Oak Tree Traffic Advisory Committee, Supervisors Kleiner, Whalen and Stewart, Orangetown Highway Superintendent Dean and Senior Administrative Assistant Munno, Police Chief Nulty, Traffic Advisory Board Chair DeVincenzo, the Ingingham Construction Company, the Oak Tree Road neighbors, the PCC board and numerous other supporters. Special thanks goes to New York State Senator Carlucci who procured money for this sidewalk. He has demonstrated his support of the Palisades community numerous times.
