Tallman Beach and Pool Club

The Tallman State Park swimming pools are reopening this summer thanks to Billy Procida. After this wonderful community landmark sat vacant and abandoned for the last several years when New York slashed funding to the State Park system during the Recession, Procida has signed a twenty-year lease with the Palisades Interstate Park Commission to reopen and manage the adult and kiddie pools. Tallman Beach and Pool Club LLC will be operated as a public-private partnership between Procida Funding and the State Park System.

As a local resident of Piermont and owner of a commercial real estate lending and advisory firm, Billy Procida has got the determination, means and capital to put up what he thinks will be at least a half-million dollars to upgrade the pools in time for a grand opening on Memorial Day weekend. He also happened to be the lone bidder. According to LoHud.com, Jim Hall, the executive director of the PIPC, is excited about the prospect of getting the pools restored and reopened by an award-winning, well-capitalized local builder.

The full makeover will include restoration of both the adult and kiddie pools and grass replaced with sand to form a river-view beach for activities like volleyball, yoga and special events like outdoor concerts and triathlons. Food and beverage services will be available. The new facility will be run by Peter O’Donnell Jr. and John Alaimo, who manage the Rockland Sharks swim team; sounds like a good match for planned swim lessons and meets.

Annual memberships will run from $600 for a single, $750 for a couple and $975 for a family. (Prices include discounts on programming and other privileges, plus an Empire pass, which allows for a year’s worth of free admission to every State Park in New York State and free parking in Tallman Park and at every State Park in New York State.) Day rates will be around $10 (which does not include parking fee) with discounts for seniors and local volunteer organizations. The first 300 people to sign up for memberships by March 15 will get 20% discounts on membership courtesy of Procida Funding and Advisors.

Mitchell Warren of Piermont will provide construction management services. Piermont resident Debora Brenner of Environetics is leading the design. This article was sourced from lohud.com and Robert Brum who is a columnist and editor of The Rockland Angle.
