There may come a time in our lives when we need to find for ourselves, a loved one or a friend, alternate living arrangements, as either mobility, health or financial situations require a lifestyle change. Whether it involves simply downsizing, a need for assistance or nursing care, whatever the circumstance, there are a variety of options nearby. Within a 10-mile radius of Palisades, at least 20 facilities offer a wide range of services, everything from independent or assisted living, to nursing home care.
One of these facilities, Dowling Gardens, sits just outside of Palisades in neighboring Sparkill. While not a licensed assisted living or medical facility, Dowling Gardens is an independent living, residential community for senior citizens, situated on five tranquil and beautifully landscaped acres located directly behind the Dominican Convent. The three-story brick building contains 111 one-bedroom apartments, each customizable with residents’ personal furniture and decor and fully accessible to the mobility impaired. The well-staffed facility offers a variety of amenities and services including daily dining room service with dinner menu, optional weekly housekeeping, laundry, scheduled transportation to shopping and a variety of organized social and cultural activities. There is even an on-site coffee shop, barber/beauty shop and library.
Most importantly, and something that gives great comfort to residents and extended family alike, is the 24/7 on-site Emergency Services and Maintenance staff along with Monitored Emergency Services (Life Line). In addition, an emergency generator keeps Dowling Gardens residents’ safe and the facility up and running in every situation.
If and when the time comes to look for that “alternate living situation,” Dowling Gardens may be a great option for those looking for secure independent living nearby. Availability fluctuates; however, several apartments are currently open and await their new occupants. Certainly worth taking a look!
