The name the "Sparkill Fire Department" is simply an unofficial, "umbrella" term encompassing the the John Paulding Engine Company No. 1, which is a non-profit volunteer organization whose volunteer "employees" work to provide fire and emergency protection to the Sparkill-Palisades Fire District. The District is represented by you, the taxpayers of Sparkill and Palisades, through a Board of Fire Commissioners, consisting of a Chairman, Deputy Chairman, and three commissioners, totaling five Board members. We accept members starting at age 16, and they are considered "firefighters". Volunteers can participate as auxiliaries or be trained to become active fire fighters as well. Contact the firehouse by leaving a message for department personnel at: 359-1324.

Sawdust, shower steam, leaf-blower exhaust and many other particulate clouds can easily set off your alarm.
