IN OUR BACKYARD - RESTAURANT RE-CAP
We all have our favorites, but here are some of the best in the ‘hood.
OLAR
It is astonishing that we have this gem in Rockland. Small, crowded, noisy and fabulous – the best food you’ll have this side of the Hudson. Cash only, a loose reservation system and continual culinary brilliance. (Impress the visitors)
587 Piermont Avenue, Piermont
ROOST
Still the warm and welcoming neighborhood spot chef Kevin Reilly and partner Maria Santini aimed to create in 2013 when Roost first opened. Great burgers, hearty takes on classic American dishes and a yummy brunch menu. Be sure to try the maple syrup soaked cornbread, a Roost staple. (Hang with friends and family)
623 Main Street, Sparkill
DVINE BAR
More hip and happening than ever, especially since chef Chris Holland won Food Network’s Chopped in 2017. Imaginative, seasonal dishes often with an Asian influence. Nice wine list. Bring your earplugs on weekends. (Forget it’s the suburbs)
4 Depot Square, Sparkill
DVINE PIE
The scrappy little sister to DVine Bar. Great style and food that’s easy to share. An improved wine list since its opening last year. (Take the kids - young and old)
453 Piermont Avenue, Piermont
MURASAKI
Consistently fresh and tasty Japanese food. Portions are shrinking and prices are rising, but something on the massive menu will tickle your buds and be worth every dime. (Forgot to cook)
138 Main Street, Nyack
SIDEWALK BISTRO
Lovely for an outdoor lunch with a glass of crisp, cold Chablis. The Frisée aux Lardons and any type of mussels are safe bets. (Lunch with mom)
482 Piermont Avenue, Piermont
HINODE
Family run spot with surprisingly good sushi and sashimi. No frills. (Always open)
55 US-9W, Piermont
